DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER MIKHAIL BOGDANOV’S MEETING WITH SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA PATRICK MATIBINI
On April 17, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Patrick Matibini at the Foreign Ministry. Mr Matibini is in Russia on an official visit at the invitation of Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko.
During a detailed conversation, which included Ambassador of Zambia to Russia Shadrick Luwita the participants discussed a package of issues pertaining to the further development of traditionally friendly Russia-Zambia relations, including promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation in economic, humanitarian and other areas. The emphasis was laid on Moscow and Lusaka’s determination to practically cooperate in the nuclear power industry, including the training of Zambian specialists by Rosatom State Corporation.
In line with the intention of Russia and Zambia to deepen their political dialogue, the participants noted the same or similar positions of the two countries on pressing international issues, including the fight against terrorism and a settlement of crises in Syria and the Middle East and Africa. They also reaffirmed the importance of pooling efforts on expanding Russia’s multisided cooperation with the African Union and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
