For European Union Citizens

The following information applies to EU citizens only. The applicant may refrain from using the procedure stipulated below and resort to the standard procedure to obtain an appropriate type of visa.

EU citizens may apply for business, education, humanitarian and private using the following set of documents in cases specified by the corresponding Agreement between the Russian Federation and the European Union.

A business visa can have, single, double or multiple entries.
Single- and double- entry visas can be issued for a period of up to 90 days in all cases.
A multiple-entry visa valid for up to 1 year can be issued in case the applicant traveled to Russia using a visa other than transit within previous 12 months at least once.
A multiple-entry visa valid for up to 5 years can be issued in case the applicant continuously traveled to Russia using 1-year multiple-entry business visas within previous 24 months.

An education visa is a single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days. It can be used for short-term study courses only (no full-time tuition allowed).

A humanitarian visa is a single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days.

A private visa can have, single, double or multiple entries. It is issued to relatives (citizens of EU countries only) of EU nationals staying in Russia under a residence permit, temporary residence permit, education or employment visas (including members of diplomatic and consular missions).


Single- and double- entry visas can be issued for a period of up to 90 days in all cases.
A multiple-entry visa valid for up to 1 year can be issued in case the applicant traveled to Russia using a visa other than transit within previous 12 months at least once.
A multiple-entry visa valid for up to 5 years can be issued in case the applicant continuously traveled to Russia using 1-year multiple-entry private visas within previous 24 months. It is issued only to spouses and children (under the age of 21) of the inviting person.

Requirements for visas (EU citizens):

  • Visa application with 1 recent photo, size 3x4 cm.Passport valid for at least 6 months from the visa expiry date with at least 2 empty pages and copies of the personal data page and the page with the current Zambian visa.For business, education and humanitarian visas: Letter of invitation issued by the Russian legal entity/educational institution inviting the applicant (original or copy).
  • The letter of invitation must contain the following data:
    - full name and address of the legal entity, its taxpayer’s number;
    - full name and personal data of the invitee (including passport number);
    - purpose of the trip, type of visa, its validity period and number of entries;
    - signature of the authorized person with an affixed seal.
  • The letter of invitation should be made out in Russian on the official blank of the legal entity and addressed to the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Zambia.For private visas only: Letter of invitation (original or copy) made out by the inviting person and documents certifying relationship (originals or copies, for guests of foreign diplomats and embassy staff – Verbal Note with a request to issue the visa).
  • The Agreement does not cover issuance of private visas to family members (EU nationals) of Russian citizens.
  • Copy of medical insurance policy covering the period of the trip.

ATTENTION!

With regard to the sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU-members and expulsion of Russian diplomats, some provisions of agreement with the EU, and relevant agreements with Denmark, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are temporary suspended in relation to:

- members of official delegations, participating in official meetings, consultations, negotiations or exchange programmes;

- members of national and regional governments and parliaments, Constitutional and Supreme Courts;

- journalists, including independent ones;

- holders of diplomatic passports, who enter the Russian Federation using 90 days visa-free regime.
